Join us for our comprehensive Anxiety Series at AYL, designed to support individuals experiencing perinatal anxiety. Each class focuses on different aspects of anxiety and provides practical tools to manage it. Here’s what to expect:
Class One: Understanding Perinatal Anxiety
- We start with meditation and mindfulness practices to center and calm the mind, followed by discussions on normalizing anxiety during pregnancy and understanding its impacts. We then explore effective methods and strategies for anxiety management, with opportunities to share personal insights and experiences. We learn how knowledge can influence anxiety levels and engage in homework activities to reinforce our learning between sessions.
Class Two: Physical and Relational Impacts of Anxiety
- Explore the physiological impacts of anxiety on fertility and pregnancy and the benefits of physical treatments such as exercise, massage, and acupuncture. Delve into how anxiety influences relationships and vice versa while reflecting on self-judgment and perceived judgments from others.
Class Three: Nutritional and Sleep Impacts on Anxiety
- Reflect on previous lessons and share insights from your homework assignments. Gain an understanding of how diet influences anxiety levels. Explore the bidirectional relationship between sleep patterns and anxiety. Deepen your mindfulness practices through continued meditation sessions.
Class Four: Spiritual and Environmental Influences on Anxiety
- Conclude with a final review and sharing of homework experiences. Explore the impact of spiritual beliefs and practices on anxiety levels. Delve into the effects of modern living on anxiety and discover the therapeutic benefits of reconnecting with nature. This session offers valuable insights into managing anxiety through spiritual exploration and reconnecting with the natural world.
Meet Your Instructor: Lauren Hagen
Lauren Hagen brings 20 years of experience as a registered nurse, with a master’s degree in adult health nursing from UT-Austin. Most of her career has been spent in the maternity and perinatal fields, including roles in fertility, OB/GYN triage, bedside labor nursing, birth center management, doula services, and childbirth education. For the past three years, Lauren has been practicing "Nurse Coaching," a holistic wellness approach that honors the client as the expert in their health journey.
Lauren’s most relevant and valuable education in this area comes from her experiences as a single mother of three children. She has experienced pregnancy and birth in various forms: unmedicated and medicated, vaginal, c-section, VBAC, hospital, and home birth. These diverse experiences have taught her that there is no "better" way to give birth and that surrendering to the process of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood is an inherent part of the journey.
Join us for this insightful and supportive series, under the expert guidance of Lauren Hagen, to better understand and manage perinatal anxiety.
